DuPont™ Nomex® is a heat- and flame-resistant meta-aramid fibre used across a diverse range of applications – perhaps most commonly known as a key component in fabrics utilised to create protective apparel. Due to its unique combination of heat, flame and electric arc protection, durability and comfort, the Nomex® brand is trusted amongst those working in dangerous conditions such as firefighters; military pilots and combat vehicle crew; auto racing drivers, pit crew and track officials; and industrial workers at risk from flash fire and electric arc hazards.
Heat & flame protection
When Nomex® is exposed to intense heat, its fibers thicken and carbonize—absorbing heat energy in the process. Additionally, Nomex® fibers won’t melt, drip or support combustion.
The molecular structure of Nomex® that prevents heat from passing through it also prevents electricity from flowing through it when exposed to electrical arc.
Because Nomex® is a poor conductor of electricity, it makes for a remarkable insulator when used in paper sheets and boards.
Nomex® fiber is highly resistant to most common acids and alkalis, fluorocarbon refrigerants, transformer oil and silicon.
What are other uses of Nomex®?

Nomex® honeycomb is a composite core material made Nomex® aramid fiber paper.
