DuPont™ Nomex® Partner Garment Innovation Highlights

As a part of the Nomex® Partner Program, DuPont invited participating European manufacturers to take part in the DuPont™ Nomex® Partner Garment Innovation Highlights, offering a unique opportunity to present their latest innovations at A+A.

To offer maximum protection to the wearer, the production and sale of original Nomex® fibres throughout the DuPont network of suppliers and manufacturers in Europe must also be maintained to the highest standard. In Europe, DuPont has developed the DuPont™ Nomex® Partner Program: a carefully-selected network of progressive, customer-oriented weavers and garment manufacturers that adhere to the rigorous quality controls of DuPont for their fabrics and garments.

Within the framework of the Nomex® Partner Program, DuPont invited participating manufacturers to take part in the DuPont™ Nomex® Partner Garment Innovation Highlights, offering them a unique opportunity to present their latest innovations on the DuPont stand at A+A.
In preparation for A+A, innovative Partner products were critically examined by DuPont on the basis of four criteria. The innovations had to:

  • be notably different from existing solutions
  • address a specific customer need
  • provide added performance or functionality
  • be creative in terms of design or system integration

After careful consideration of the many submissions received, a handful of products were selected as DuPont™ Nomex® Partner Garment Innovation Highlights. Two of these innovative products selected for display at the DuPont A+A stand are presented here.

XFlex™ by Bristol Uniforms Ltd
XFlex™ (incorporating Hainsworth® ECO-dry) is Bristol’s latest silhouette in lightweight fire-fighting personal protective equipment (PPE). Its ergonomic design provides the ultimate in fit and comfort for the maximum number of body types (28 male and female sizes available). XFlex™ is characterised by distinctive sports styling and offers a garment combination that is suitable for the various hazardous roles associated with a firefighter’s work.

In the outer layer, Hainsworth® Atlas – based on DuPont™ Nomex® and DuPont™ Kevlar® – provides great thermal performances, durability and breathability. Moreover, a design construction known as TI-technology™ harnesses the dynamic nature of Nomex®, offering extra protection when the heat is on.

While Nomex® reacts to extreme heat and flame by swelling and consolidating – creating a char barrier that absorbs heat and remains soft and supple until it cools – Kevlar® remains static, causing air pockets to form between the two layers, and increasing thermal insulation over time.

In the inner layer the integration of Hainsworth® ECO-dry allows for greater comfort and wearability. ECO-dry is in fact antistatic, anti-microbial and naturally hygroscopic. It regulates the absorption and evaporation of moisture vapor, controlling odor and helping the wearer feel cool in summer and warm in winter.*

e+ARC® RS garments by Iturri
Standard fire-resistant garments offer the user protection against flames, however when exposed to thermal risks associated with electric arc these garments may not fully protect the user. The new e+ARC® RS garments by Iturri offer workers increased thermal protection against electric arc burns. They have in fact been specifically developed for this risk, and ensure excellent thermal protection and tear strength qualities.

Using DuPont™ Nomex® Comfort and DuPont™ Kevlar® fibres, Estambril® Group has created the e+ARC® fabrics, which despite being medium-light weight (220 gr/m2) ensure excellent protection levels. The secret behind outstanding performances is the combination of both Nomex® and Kevlar® fibres – which provide high mechanical strength and thermal insulation – with an innovative fabric construction solution.

e+ARC® garments are made of a non-homogeneous blend, which gives the fabric the capacity to react to a thermal attack. When exposed to heat, the fabric responds with asymmetric shrinkage, generating an extra air chamber capable of further increasing insulation and protection.**
